چکیده
Given a planar graph derived from a spherical, euclidean or hyperbolic tessellation, one can define a discrete curvature by combinatorial properties, which after embedding the graph in a compact 2d-manifold, becomes the Gaussian curvature .

Curvature, Geometry and Spectral Properties of Planar Graphs
We introduce a curvature function for planar graphs to study the connection of curvature and geometric and spectral properties of the graph. We show that non-positive curvature implies that the graph is infinite, locally similar to a tessellation and admits no cut locus. For negative curvature we prove empty interior of minimal bigons and explicit bounds for the growth of distance balls and Che...
متن کاملThe Laplacian and ∂̄ operators on critical planar graphs
On a periodic planar graph whose edge weights satisfy a certain simple geometric condition, the discrete Laplacian and ∂̄ operators have the property that their determinants and inverses only depend on the local geometry of the graph. We obtain explicit expressions for the logarithms of the (normalized) determinants, as well as the inverses of these operators. We relate the logarithm of the dete...
متن کاملTotal Curvature of Graphs in Space
The Fáry-Milnor Theorem says that any embedding of the circle S1 into R3 of total curvature less than 4π is unknotted. More generally, a (finite) graph consists of a finite number of edges and vertices. Given a topological type of graphs Γ, what limitations on the isotopy class of Γ are implied by a bound on total curvature? Especially: what does “total curvature” mean for a graph? I shall disc...
متن کاملDiscrete Surfaces in Isotropic Geometry
Meshes with planar quadrilateral faces are desirable discrete surface representations for architecture. The present paper introduces new classes of planar quad meshes, which discretize principal curvature lines of surfaces in so-called isotropic 3-space. Like their Euclidean counterparts, these isotropic principal meshes meshes are visually expressing fundamental shape characteristics and they ...
متن کاملIsometric embedding of Busemann surfaces into L1
In this note, we prove that any non-positively curved 2-dimensional surface (alias, Busemann surface) is isometrically embeddable into L1. As a corollary, we obtain that all planar graphs which are 1skeletons of planar non-positively curved complexes with regular Euclidean polygons as cells are L1-embeddable with distortion at most 2 + π/2 < 4. Our results significantly improve and simplify the...
